Our players were delighted to be asked to play at the official opening of Dumfries House, near Auchinleck and for the visit of HRH Prince Charles – Duke of Rothesay on the afternoon of Friday 6th June, it was yet another great event for our band to be involved in and we had players from both our Senior and Junior bands taking part.

Many dignitaries were invited to have a tour of this wonderful house, which has been restored in recent months and we played, conducted by Archie Hutchison, on the front lawn while teas and coffees were served after Prince Charles had left for another engagement.

By all accounts, it is well worth a visit to see the antique furniture and historic treasures within the house and it will become a major tourist attraction which will see thousands of visitors coming to the area in the coming months and years.

HRH Prince Charles became involved some months ago to save Dumfries House “for the nation” and it will be part of a larger development which will greatly improve the area around Cumnock and Auchinleck.

For our small part, we were very proud to be asked again to play in such distinguished company and our thanks goes to Bill Stafford at East Ayrshire Council for thinking of us on such a “Royal Occasion”!
