On Saturday 10th March the band headed off to Dundee for the Scottish Championship Contest, our Section being held in the Caird Hall on Sunday 11th. This was our first foray in the Championship Section at this Contest following our victory in the 1st Section last year. And what a welcome back it was! The test-piece was Robert Redheads extremely difficult Isaiah 40. The Band however rose to the challenge of putting this piece together. Rehearsals under Archie were intense and constructive and as the Contest day drew nearer, we felt we were going to deliver a good performance.
On stage, our playing wasnt without the odd blemish it is one of those pieces that any Band no matter how good they are wont get through from start to finish error free but we were generally happy with our efforts. Come the results we were awarded 5th place, which is quite pleasing considering we havent competed at this level for a while. It also means that we maintain our place in the Championship Section and can only build on this for the forthcoming year. |
Thanks must go to Archie for all his energetic and enthusiastic work with the Band, either together or in sections, and to all the players for their dedication and commitment. Special mention must also go to four players who also conduct other Bands and managed to juggle our rehearsals along with theirs - David McKellar takes Irvine & Dreghorn Band, David Shanks - Annan Town (ADP) Band, David Hamilton Clydebank Burgh Band and John Boax Dunaskin Doon Band. Congratulations are due to John & Dunaskin Doon Band on their 2nd Place award in the 1st Section, gaining them promotion to the Championship Section later this year.
