Healing
a strained finger.
Ironic, isn't it? I'm now on Spring
Break, with all this wonderful time to practice, and I strained my
finger! (Playing piano, no less - my middle finger, right hand. This
has caused some problems when showing people which finger is
troubling me, as you might guess). I'm refraining from piano
practice for a few days, but still playing cello (somewhat
reservedly), since it's my bow hand. I'm also icing the sore finger
after I play. Is this allright? How long should I wait before
playing unreservedly again? Any remedies or voodoo spells to help
the healing process?

Similar to Sarah's: 10 minutes ice,
10 minutes heat, 10 minutes ice. That was my doctors remedy for shin
splints when I was a runner.

Some OTC anti-inflammatories might
help, as well as the ice and heat mentioned.

My
doctor's advice
My doctor told me years ago that
when you have an injury or weekness in a joint, to take the
anti-inflammatory (sp?) medication before you practice or play
sports or whatever, it really does keep down the swelling and pain,
rather than waiting until it hurts!
