Beginner Etudes with CD's
Other than the Suzuki method, are
there any other books out there that have beginner (more for adults)
etudes or solos with accompaniment that's on a CD, mp3 format or
other format? I've seen some for bass methods (one by David
Walter)in which the instrumentalist plays the piece, and then the
second part of the tape or CD only has the piano accompaniment. I'd
appreciate your help.
Thanks, Brian

Re:

This website offers downloadable
sheet music with piano accompaniment in the form of MIDI files. It's
mostly the same material as the Susuki method. www.maestronet.com/w-cons.html
I've
also sequenced my own MIDI accompaniment using Noteworthy. This is
great for simple pieces but could be very time consuming for more
complicated stuff.

Fiddlers Philharmonic
Try SHAR for the book called
Fiddlers Philharmonic by Dabczynski/Phillips - very fun, CD has more
than one tempo for practice, books also available for violin, viola,
cello . . . beginners might play the bass line provided, and there
are also solo and "break" parts to try.

Re:

There is a publisher "Music Minus
One" that offers sheet music with CDs that include the performance
and then the performance without one instrument...in this case, the
cello. I've never used them personally, so I can't say if they are
any good and they are not really for beginners, I don't think. But
maybe you would be interested in trying them out. You can go to www.
sheetmusic.com and type cello into the search but it might be better
to try by the publishers name. They have so much sheet music for
cello there it would take a long time to get through it all. (If I
remember correctly though, there should be a couple of things by
Music Minus One on the first page). Hope this was helpful.

Re:

I have seen/heard them used with
clarinet and they were not easy. Many of the tunes were unknown, and
since it is accompaniment minus one, the poor "minus one" was
clueless where to come in. No score, no hints, nobody on the CD
yelling, "Yo, NOW!" It was not a popular item. Perhaps someone else
had a more favorable experience.

Re:

There are the Dowani CD's. They have
2 (or3) Cirri sonatas, the Breval concertino in F and I believe also
a Haydn concerto (Cmajor?) More is coming. The nice thing about
these CD's is that besides a concert version an a pianopart in the
concert-tempo, they give the pianopart in a slow and in a very slow
version. Good practice-material! I like the Cirri sonatas, but I
haven't tried the Breval yet.
I would like to hear from
people who worked with them, so if you try them, let us all know how
you like them.
