One of those nights . . .
Ever have one of those lessons where you manage to be a complete clutz? While my playing was neither particularly good nor bad, I had this horrible case of the clumsies throughout the entire lesson. The pinnacle of the evening came when I had to effect a quick change from bowing to pizzicato - rather than simply alter my bow grip to pluck the string I actually managed to fling the bow out of my hand such that it flew into the music stand and ricocheted off it at a fantastic angle. Thank goodness for carbon fiber bows! Sadly my cello did suffer a bit of a scratch, but mostly it got my teacher laughing so hard, and myself in turn, that we had to pause the lesson to regain some degree of composure. What a night . . .

you mean it doesn't happen every lesson that you and
your teacher end up in laughing fits over your clumsyness?
mmmm... i wonder why it happens to me then :)

Lat night at my lesson, when I started off my bow was shaking so badly my teacher asked me if I had taken up smoking....in the end we put the shakes down to an excess of coffee drinking the day!!!

aWW, Don't feel bad. I actually did that in recital once - no pizz involved. Just an over-exhuberant upbow. Bow went flying off- fortunatley no one was hurt.

Wow! Okay, maybe it wasn't so bad then - at least I did it in the privacy of my lesson, and my teacher already knew I wasn't the most graceful . . .

flying bow
I did it in the middle of a symphony concert - and I was sitting on the outside! Goo thing the bow didn't land in the audience.
