Paul, he's a cutie!!! I laughed when
I saw what his 'personal interests' were! Kind of narrow, but hey,
he has time! At that age, it is all milk and sleep! Congratulations,
again.

congratulations......
Congratulations and best
wishes! I remember our discussion about prenatal music
influence....would be interesting what you all experience about that
( hope you didn´t practice too much contemporary stuff in the
past......) Well, it´s my eldest daughters 9th birthday today -
time flies away so fast, so enjoy every second ! (especially those
of undisturbed sleep at
night.....

He's
adorable
Enjoy yourselves! Get as much sleep
as you can! They grow up so fast. My youngest just turned 8. It
seems like yesterday he was your little guy's size.

Thanks Mathias,
So far, he
really like the Beethoven Cello and Piano Sonatas. I think Mozart
piano music gives him a bit of a buzz too.
He does have a
very good bow grip though (I'm sure I've bragged about that a few
times already, sorry).

He is
beautiful -
- which is high praise indeed from
me, because I'm fussy when it comes to babies.
However, you
do realise that in a few years you'll need to have another one, or
else he'll be lonely You never
know, it might even be a girl next time
I think
that you should play some Mahler to him - especially the 1st Mvt. of
#2, because of the big cello part.

Mahler
He heard the Adagio from Mahler 5
while in the womb and during his birth (it was playing during the
delivery).
We hope in a few years he'll have a younger
sibling to play with and hopefully do chamber music (oops, sorry
Corrina!) with.

I hope
it was the quick version
Apparently the fastest #5 Adagietto
is at around 7min! Today it can be as slow as 14min! I sent an
interesting article to Mr Stucka about it.
You'll actually
need two more children, if you want a piano trio, or string
trio.

Re: I

I don't think it was much longer
than 7 minutes. Actually, I was thinking that we would be like the
Bach family and I could play cello while the kids play piano and
violin.
My wish is that my kids will start on the piano at a
young age and then take on either violin or cello. But my fantasy
would be that they would be highly profient at both piano and their
string instrument (like a certain great cellist we know).
Ah,
well, I can dream can't I? You just watch, he'll turn out to want to
be a Sensei in Karate!

He's
gorgeous! . . .
Babies certainly are miraculous,
aren't they? Congratulations, Paul & Katie. Joy and blessings to
you all.

Re: I

I'm sure that he can be a sensei and
highly proficiant. He looks pretty clever to ME!
IMHO start
the stringed instrument first - for a start there is the fact that
you can have a tiny cello!
On the other hand, it might be
better to start this one on violin, because otherwise he could feel
terribly under pressure etc etc etc, which would be damaging to his
confidence
I might
just add that my brother started violin at three and, then piano
unofficially (with my mother) at 5, and with a teacher at 8, and
he's doing pretty well.
BTW, do you know Rick Mooney? He'd be
a good teacher for little Alexander.

Mooney
I am not familiar with Rick Mooney.
Is he in San Diego? I'm going to guess he's a Suzuki
teacher.
I think I'd rather he study piano first. All the
little students I've taught who studied piano first always learned
faster on the cello than those who didn't.
I know a case can
be made either way, so in the end, we just have to go with our gut
instincts. He might even end up wanting to play the Drums! !

Piano
primer
Paul, I know this thread started out
as us taking a look at Cutie-Pie but I had to comment on this thing
about taking piano first. I think visually (here we go again,
CBNers), I took piano lessons when I was young and I still see a
keyboard in my head with the cello. The fingerboard is a real
abstact black item - especially when you know nada - but a piano
explains all those full, 1/2 steps concepts in black and white. I
use the piano with Aria when she has a hard time with tricky key
signatures.
