Handbell music

When listening to these samples, keep in mind that there are a number of handbell techniques such as swings, shakes, plucks, and martelattos that are difficult to duplicate in a MIDI file.  I have done my best in the samples below.

Completed handbell music

Glory be to Jesus, 1994

Variations on the hymn tune by Friedrich Filtz.  Three and four octave versions.

Salute to the Capital Gifts Campaign, 1994

A study in plagiarism. Inspired by the theme song to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church's Capital Gifts Campaign, "Lift High the Cross", this composition mixes this tune with many others, both sacred and profane. Imagine "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies", the "Flintstones" theme, "Jesus Loves Me", and "Dixieland" all in the same composition. I won't even mention the Budweiser theme. At a handbell festival that Cynthia Dobrinski conducted in Fort Worth in 1996, this was the only non-Dobrinski piece performed.  Three and four octave versions.

Radiance, 1995

A fanfare for four-octave handbell choir. The title was suggested by Laura Faulkner.

Remember, 1996

A memorial piece for my father, Lee Reese. It was composed in the week following his unexpected death. For four-octave handbell choir.

Handbell music in progress

Sonata for Handbells, 1996
