3. Providing activities for diverse groups of dancers
The challenge is not only to attract and provide for the development of new dancers but also to retain the interest and active participation of current dancers. We need to recognize that diversity exists and to create opportunities for all of our dancers in order to increase membership.
Recommendations:
1. Assess Association activities to ensure provision for the full range of dancers' needs and interests, and initiate activities as required.
2. Identify social groups which accept and provide for beginners as well as groups which deal with more challenging material, specifically for experienced or advanced dancers.
3. Co-ordinate meetings of representatives of social groups in the areas of Toronto, Durham, Peel and York to determine their interest in regional co-operation in planning publicity, events, etc., and to see what support the Association can provide if required.
4. Initiate a plan to assist newly qualified teachers.
5. Consider a change of date for monthly dances to avoid holiday weekends.
6. Organize workshops to enhance dancers' appreciation and enjoyment of Scottish Country Dance music and of our musicians.
7. Organize workshops to address the topic of dancers' injuries.
