2. Smoothing the transition from beginner to comfortable dancer
The Committee believes that although SCD is challenging, new dancers should be integrated and welcomed into the full range of Association activities as soon as possible while their interest and enthusiasm are at their highest.
Recommendations
1. Encourage beginners to dance as often as possible, acknowledging the time and commitment needed to become comfortable with the basics of SCD, without pushing them beyond their level.
2. Stress that it is everyone's responsibility to welcome and support less experienced dancers, and to treat them with respect.
3. Encourage teachers to discuss with newer dancers their
readiness and preparation for other events.
4. Encourage devisors of dance programs to consider the varying needs of dancers, especially beginners.
5. Develop and distribute a Newcomers' Welcome Package.
6. Facilitate interaction between Association classes and other groups.
