Johannes Brahms(1833-1897)
Johannes Brahms was born in Hamburg, he moved to VIenna in 1863. Using traditional classical forms,he expanded their scope, thus bridging the gap between Classicism and Romanticism in German music. His 4 symphonies, 2 piano concertos and violin concerto, all written after he had reached his forties, are part of the Romantic repertoire. He also wrote piano and chamber works, songs and non-liturgical German Requiem 1857-1868.
