Edvard Grieg was born in Bergen, Norway, he was determinedly Norwegian in his musical inspiration. Much of his best music is small scale, namely his songs, dances and piano works. Among orchestral works are the Piano Concerto 1869, one of the most popular in the concert repertoire, and the incidental music for Ibsen's Peer Gynt 1876.
