Franz Liszt was born in Raiding, Hungary, he lived for periods in Paris, Weimar and then Rome, where he turned a religious lifeand became known as the Abbe Liszt. Highly regarded as the brilliant pianist, he produced some 400 original compositions and 900 transcriptions for piano, as inventing a new orchestral form in his Symphonic Poem. A champion of his contemporaries, especially Wagner, he promoted 'The Music of the Future', breaking new ground with his use of chromanticism.
