Anotnio Vivaldi was born in Venice, Italy, he spent most his life there as a teacher but died in poverty on Vienna. A profilic composer, he is noted for instrumental works - over 400 concertos, 23 symphonies and 73 sonatas - and his development of the solo concerto is especially significant. His music, which also includes over 40 operas and much sacred music, was largely neglected until the 1930's.
