Margells

We hardly recognised it at first because we're used to the Handbook picture
which is taken from the garden not the road, which it comes right up to (see
picture below). Branscombe is a series of hamlets spread amongst a number of
combes that converge on the sea. It was quiet in February but I imagine could
get quiet touristy in summer (there were a number of 'please don't park outside
this house' signs...). Margells is in Street, which has the the sort of
unpretentious, friendly, quiet pub (The Fountain Head) that's all too rare,
added to which it sells beer made in the village and local cider.
Front and back doors
open onto a hallway separated by wooden 'screens' from the Kitchen and Living
rooms. The screens and the molded ceilings give these rooms a warm, woody feel.
The whole ground floor has stone flagged floors, which could be cold on the feet
were it not for underfloor heating, which makes it very cosy. Upstairs the rooms
extend up to the rafters so feel a lot roomier and airy, if cooler.
