Warden Abbey
Reviews:
(Provided by Sexton Blake) ....We were really impressed with Warden Abbey. The bedroom is spectacularly
large - even the nice photo in the book doesn't do it justice. The attic
room is workmanlike with lots of beams and a way out on to the roof.
Downstairs there is a smallish kitchen and a living room/dining room with a
lovely big fireplace. Along with many other landmarks the log book is full
of tales of woe on the firemaking front - the local supplies are a bit damp
so don't forget an axe and you might consider a bit of coal to get the fire
really hot before chucking on anything big. Heating is fine, water is sadly
unreliable for much more than a couple of baths. The location is excellent
- in the middle of a field with lots of strange lumps that might or might
not be abbey, a disused railway line near by (one of us fell down a hole on
it, so BE CAREFUL and take a mobile phone) which leads to a huge, very
long, unused, dark railway tunnel. Great fun and possible to walk in the
dark although anyone who is squeemish should take a torch. Another amazing
attraction are the huge hangers, just a few miles away, that the R101 was
built in; good books on this in the Abbey. You can't get in but fun to get
as close as you can (disused RAF camps surround the hangers). 9/10
