Velislav Zaimov




Velsislav Zaimov, a well known Bulgarian composer, was born on May 8th 1951 in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 1970 he graduated from the French High School in Sofia. From 1972 untill 1977 he studied at the faculty of Theory, Composition and Directing at the State Acadaemy of Music in Soia. He studied composition with Professor Dimitar Tapkov and with Professor Alexander Tanev.

After graduation, he worked as an orchesatrtion and harmony teahcer at the Bulgarian State Academy of Music, as a teacher of harmony at the Sofia Music High School, and as a teacher of musical analysis at the Plovdiv Academy of Music and Dance, and at present he is teaching score reading at the State Academy of Music at Sofia.

He has composed 9 symphonies, 6 instrumental concertos, 3 symphonic fantasies, a requiem for solo voice, chorus and orchestra, 20 sonatas for varios instruments, 6 trios, 9 quartetes, 2 quintets, 2 sextets, a septet, a octet, a nonet, varios pieces for string orchestra and vocal instrument cycles as well as choral pieces, pieces for piano, organ, etc.

He is a member of the Bulgarian Composer's Union.

His compositions have been performed in Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Russia, and the Ukraine. Some of his compositions have been recorded for the Bulgarian Radio.
