Jaguar XK8

One of the most eagerly anticipated events in the automotive world was the introduction of this new Jaguar sports car. While the XK8 ends the 21-year run of the XJS, the vehicle actually is the spiritual descendant of the legendary Jaguar E-Type and XK120. The XK8 features Jaguar's first-ever V8 engine, designed entirely by Jaguar and manufactured in a dedicated engine plant in the United Kingdom. Though the XK8 is a thoroughly modern design, it retains the oval grille, Connolly leather and wood trim that are Jaguar trademarks. Interestingly, the car breaks with one Jaguar tradition by having no electrical components manufactured by Lucas. Like the E-Type, the XK8 is available as both a coupe and a roadster.

The 1998 Jaguar XK8 is available in two trims: XK8 Coupe and Convertible. Standard safety features include dual front and seat-mounted side airbags, an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and automatic stability control. Power comes from a 4.0-liter DOHC 290-horsepower V8 engine teamed with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Standard features are numerous and include a Connolly leather interior, walnut trim, a wood/leather steering wheel, a premium audio system, power windows and door locks, front and rear fog lights, and a vehicle security system. The Convertible also features a lined top with a glass window and electric operation.
