...As I Travel Through Time

My passionate hobby of doing living history takes me to many different time periods.  To the left, I am doing some real "living history" at a War of 1812 event.  This event was held in the mountains of north Georgia and a kind farmer in the area offered us some "lunch."  All we had to do was butcher it and eat it.  I was amazed at the fascination that many people had watching me "prepare" lunch for the family.   After lunch my husband (pictured with me) and I gave a demonstration of firing flint-lock weapons.  It is very rewarding  to hear the comments about our providing an accuate look into history.
This is not the best picture of me in during the American Civil War, but everyone seems to get such a kick out of me doing dishes that I decided to include it.  This photo was taken at the reenactment of the Battle of Resaca, Georgia which actually took place in 1864.  Events like this make me appreciate things like hot showers, dishwashers, and microwave ovens!

Here I've traveled forward in time to World War II.  There are many more opportunities for women in military roles in the 1940's.  I have several different impressions that I do for this time period.   Shown here is my flight or duty uniform for a Womens Airforce Service Pilot or WASP. These ladies really did a great deal to help the war effort in a number of capacities, mostly on the home front.  Until I met my husband I had never experienced living history in this era.  I was missing something.  These gals deserve all the honor due them.  The plane here is a P-51 Mustang.  Quite a hot little number!  The WASP's ferried many of these State side though this one is painted as it would be for a fighter pilot in the European theater.  This photo was taken in Minnisota at Planes of Fame.  Additionaly, I portray a Russian sniper (yes - they used women in battle), a French partisan (either way I get to shoot Germans), WAC, and an Army Nurse.
There are times when my "talents" are needed in a more modern capacity.  Every year, on Memorial Day, we present a time line of "Living History" statues, to honor American's who have fallen in all the wars our country has been involved in.  I ensure that the female heros are not forgotten.  This very moving event is televised in the Atlanta area and always draws a large crowd. Every year we come together in Lawrenceville, GA to honor those who have gone before us.

This hobby has given me the most wonderful opportunity to meet some of the real heros that made this country great.  Bob Morgan (commander-pilot of the B-17 Memphis Bell) , Robert Johnson (2nd highest scoring fighter ace in Europe), Gen. Scott (God is My Co-Pilot), Col. Richard O'Hara (commander-pilot B-17 Scarlett) and many men of the 8th Airforce to name just a few!  There are no words that I can ever use to express my thanks to them for their contributions to our country.  These have been some of the most richly rewarding experiences of my life! Their wives have given me valuable insight into the lives of women during World War II.
