Santa Clarita Valley
Concert Band
About the band ...
The band was formed in 1984 by local businessman/musician Gordon Feltcorn to
serve two purposes:
- to provide accomplished adult amateur musicians a local
forum where they could use and further develop their
musical skills
- to provide the community with an accomplished musical
resource.
Today the band has 45 members ranging in age from their
twenties to seventies. The band practices weekly all year round
and performs an average of 16 times each year.
The concert band is arguably one of the most flexible musical
groups in existence; we are able to play virtually any
type of music. Recent performances have included: classical,
waltzes, rock and roll, jazz, blues, big band, ragtime, show
tunes, marches, western, country, and folk music. Our library
contains some 500 arrangements of music.
Recent performances include: "Swingtime in Santa Clarita " at the Vital Express PAC, Hospital Fund Raiser, City of Santa
Clarita sponsored events, Memorial Day Ceremonies, 4th
of July Concerts, Senior Citizen Centers, Clubs and Homes,
various homeowners' associations, Valencia Town Center Mall,
Country Clubs, Churches, Magic Mountain, L.A. County Fair,
Newhall Land and Farm sponsored events, S.C.V. Historical
Society, U.S. Navy, S.C.V.T.V., L.A. County Youth Detention
Camps, L.A.R.C. Ranch, and Chamber of Commerce events.
The Band is a California Non-profit Corporation and is financed
through donations received for performances, and gifts received
from business and individual sponsors. Band members donate their
services, thus, the band has no payroll. All funds received are
used for normal operating expenses and to purchase musical
instruments, performance aids, and musical arrangements.
