Below is a list of my favorite TV shows, along with a summary and link to a specific page for these shows.

The Simpsons

A favorite of many, especially here in college. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie always find themselves in some sort of trouble. Easily recognized by their unique hairstyles and yellow skin. We watch them at 6:00 and 6:30 weekdays and 8:00 Sundays on FOX WTTG 5 (Washington, D.C.).

Pokémon

Ash is working to become a Pokémon master with help from Pikachu and the other Pokémon. Brock and Misty join him weekdays on UPN WDCA-20 (Washington, D.C.) at 3:30 as they travel in the world of Pokémon.

3rd Rock from the Sun

Comedy about aliens who try to assimilate themselves in the earth culture of Rutherford, Ohio. We watch them at 8:00 Tuesdays on NBC WVIR 29 (Richmond), or NBC WRC 4 (Washington, D.C.). Starring Emmy winners John Lithgow as Dick, Kristen Johnston as Sally, plus Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tommy, French Stewart as Harry, Jane Curtin as Dr. Mary Albright, Simbi Khali as Nina, Elmarie Wendel as Mrs. Dubcek and Wayne Knight as Don.

Guiding Light

In Memory of Michael Zazlow (December 7, 1998).
Click here for a picture of his TV family.

Soap opera about the events of a town called Springfield (kind of like The Simpsons...). Many diverse characters, from the humble Cooper family to the rich and powerful families of the Lewises and the Spauldings. We watch them at 3:00 weekdays on CBS WUSA 9 (Washington, D.C).

Remember, it's not a terrible thing to become addicted to a soap opera, just don't become dependent. And it's OK to hate people on a soap opera (people like Annie Dutton or Beth Raines!), because they aren't real.

Some of my favorite characters include (names hyphenated as much as I can remember due to frequent marriages/divorces): Reva Shane Lewis, Holly Lindsey, the former Blake Thorpe Marler, Harley Davidson Cooper Spaulding, Phillip Spaulding, Roger Thorpe, the late Maureen Bauer. My least favorite characters include Dinah Marler, Beth Raines, and Annie Dutton. I'll come back and explain the characters a little more later.

The Rosie O'Donnell Show

One of the greatest daytime variety shows in recent history. Rosie loves kids, having appeared on Sesame Street several times. She also loves musicals, as shown by her enthusiasm as host of the Tony awards the past few years. Of course, Rosie loves Tom Cruise most of all. We watch her on NBC WVIR 29 (Richmond) at 4:00 weekdays or NBC WRC 4 (Washington D.C.) at 3:00 weekdays.

This is my newest favorite show, starring George Segal as Jack Gallo, Laura San Giacomo as Maya Gallo, Wendie Malick as Nina van Horn (my favorite character), Enrico Colantoni as Elliot DiMauro, and David Spade as Dennis Finch. We may remember George Segal from such films as "Look Who's Talking", and David Spade from SNL. This show is about a fashion magazine office, concentrating on the editor (Jack), his assistant (Dennis), his daughter (Maya), a washed-up model (Nina), and a photographer (Elliot). I'm all about ensemble casts, and this cast is excellent. They all make fun of each other, and it's hilarious. They made the cover of last week's TV Guide, so I guess that means that it's set for years to come. Just Shoot Me is on NBC Tuesdays at 9:00 PM.
