This site is designed for fast download times, and to work with
the minimum requirements of special software. This is achieved with the following:
Reasonably small pages without too many large pictures
on one page.
Note that if the same picture appears more than once
on a page your browser does not need to download it twice. The extra copy
comes 'free'. This makes better use of limited web space and reduces download
times, while providing more pictures on the page.
Background graphics achieved with very small files.
Extra, and larger pictures available if you select
them.
No sound is played unless you request it.
Picture and sound compression levels are carefully
selected to keep file sizes as small as practical for reasonable and appropriate
quality.
Pages designed to work with a variety of window sizes
(and screen resolutions).
No special gimmicks which not all browsers support.
Only a limited amount of simple java script.
No advertising is added by the author. A little is
added by my web space providers in return for their otherwise free service.
Locations of files within the site are kept as constant
as possible to ensure the pages can be found by search engines.
Links to other sites. Only sites which seem to have
a permanent address are linked to, thus avoiding broken links.
As a result the site can be used as a quick reference
to the other sites which it links to.
