Ali Wood, Australia's Leading Concert Pianist I was sent this link from someone
who had visited this site suggesting a mutual link. I have from much experience
learned to expect the unusual and ambitious from Australians. Ali Wood's
concert programs always feature two intermissions. This is not such a strange
idea. A hundred years ago solo piano recitals were usually much longer and had
two intermissions. I guess they really wanted to give audiences their money's
worth. Of course there were no competing media back then either, no radio or
TV, only the Edison cylinders. It was only recently that single intermission
concerts were considered less tiring for both pianists and audiences alike. Her
upcoming schedule seems pretty ambitious to me too. That's a lot of playing!
I'll be acquiring her CD soon and reviewing it on this site. Stay tuned.
3/26/00 Top Pianists of the 20th Century written and compiled by a young
apparently quite prodigious grad student in biochemistry at Harvard who styles
himself "Piano Wizard". Not sure if he plays the piano or not, but his
comments concerning the pianists he describes are quite in line with my own
reactions to hearing their recordings. Take a look. This is a very interesting
site.
3/19/00 The Classical Music Email List Directory a site that may be a valuable
resource for those belonging to the "classical music tribe" or others
who just might be curious to learn more about classical music.
3/19/00 Gallery of Great Pianists a site compiled by Elena Kuschnerova a pianist in her own right who has
concertized and has a CD available at MP3.com.
3/19/00 Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is a vast and beautiful site
created by Gretchen Lamb. Tchaikovsky is arguably Russia's most important
composer, whose works have long since gained acceptance in the international
repertoire. Many festivals are held around the world as well as one of the most
important piano competitions all bearing his name. There is much here for those
interested in finding out more about this often controversial musical figure
who worked through his many personal agonies to create music which has assured
him immortality.
1/18/00 Robert Antecki is a big fan of the 20th Century Spanish composer,
Joaquín Rodrigo as well as being a composer in his own right. He was a
contributor to the old Classical Insights message board and now may be found on
the Sitetronics "Classical Now" message
board. His site has a lot of links that may be of interest for finding out more
about classical music, composers, etc.

12/11/99 Chris Kempster's Classical Music
Homepage Chis has put together some of the
best summaries of basic MUSIC THEORY that I have yet seen. Of particular note
are his references to English musical usage (they don't call a quarter note a
quarter note over there, etc.). His MIDI files and other links are worth
checking out too.
