Guitarists:
- Hillel Slovak - One of the original founders. Played on the Chili Pepper's second album, Freaky styley and their third, the Uplift mofo party plan. Died of a heroin overdose in 1988.
- Jack Sherman - Played the first self-titled album.
- Duane (Blackbyrd) McKnight - Temporary replacement after Hillel died.
- John Frusciante - Joined in 1988 and played on Mothers milk and Blood sugar sex magik. Left in 1992 but joined back in 1998 and played again on Californication.
- Arik Marshall - Was recruited 27 days before the band was due to headline Lollapalooza in 1992. Didn't play on any albums.
- Jesse Tobias - Only in the band for a matter of weeks and didn't even do any performances.
- Dave Navarro - His first concert was Woodstock '94. He played on One hot minute and left in 1998 to pursue his other project, Spread.
Drummers:
- Jack Irons - One of the original founders. Played on the Uplift mofo party plan and left after Hillel died. He went on to play with Pearl Jam.
- Cliff Martinez - Played on the Chili Peppers' first two albums.
- DH Peligro - Temporary replacement after Jack left.
