It's summertime in the northern hemisphere, and, with the exception of the merger with Yahoo!, the activity around GeoCities has been relatively quiet. Folks are on summer breaks and vacations, and there is just too much sunshine to keep many people inside on the computer. As you can see from my picture this month, I've been busy discovering some classical underwater scenery. However, our hard-working staff here at Vienna Online has been busy churning out reading material for those rainy days when you're forced inside, or when you need to come up for a little air. We welcome a new columnist this month. Lauren Peterson adds her talents to Vienna Online in a column called "Student Stars," that features student musicians. She'll start out writing about her mates at school in Michigan, but plans to migrate to students within GeoCities. Read her first column to find out more about it. Meet our inaugural Vanguard Award winners. Visit their pages and see what it takes to get your page to wear this prestigious award. Fresh for the summer is Klassiks' midi file, this one of a mysterious-sounding Berlioz piece. You'll be astounded by the history behind this brooding slice of music. Also ready for your summer surfing pleasure is a tune by the band that was featured in the movie The Sound of Music. You know the one, don't you? Set in the Austrian Alps, where the hills were alive with the sound of music. We're still waiting for other Vienna singers and musicians to offer up their works for this feature. We know you're out there, so don't be shy. The Baroque musical period is essayed by Curtis in his "Comments" column. He plans to go through the other musical periods in the months ahead. CL Josh is our zineterview for this month. This amazingly talented musician was so busy flying to concerts that it was a little difficult finishing his interview, but we finally did it. Two sites are featured in "Visiting Vienna," shrines to two great singers whom you'll know a lot better after visiting these Vienna homesteads. So, pull up a chair, click back to the front page, open up a music file, and enjoy your visit to Vienna Online. Sign in the guestbook before you go, and let us know how we're doing. We appreciate knowing you were here. |
