Robert's last aloha

Two months ago I talked about our move to Arizona from Hawaii and how difficult change was for some people. Well, the changes are much more drastic now, as I no longer have the time to devote to Vienna Online and must say my final farewell as its editor.

The past three years have been a great experience for me. I've learned a lot about Web page design, classical music, Austria, and how wonderful the experience of putting together a magazine among people spread out on three continents can be. I'll always proudly list the effort on my resume.

I hope to be able to do a few things for Austrian Editor Flo and Singapore Editor Keith in the coming months. At the very least I would like to select some colors for the front from time to time. We've decided on the title of editor emeritus for me, somewhat suitable and more professional-sounding than editor of background colors.

Don't think I won't be checking in from time to time to see who's signing the guestbook or commenting in the Cafe. I'll also be looking in on the Vienna Residents Club to see how the conversation is going. It would be nice to see all our efforts really sprout and grow and keep growing.

Good-byes are tough. This is tough. I don't want to, but with a child on the way—did I tell you we were expecting our first child?—a remote job in Hawaii to take care of, new programming to learn, and a house to keep up—yes, I'm a stay-at-home-soon-to-be-dad—there just aren't enough hours in the day to do justice to everything. So the best thing is to exit, stage right, before I become totally inept and the quality of the zine begins to slip because of it.

I expect that Flo and Keith, along with Paul, Bill, Curtis, and Renate, will continue to strive to make the zine better and better. They are a strong bunch, and with the backing of all our readers, they can be even stronger.

God bless you all, I love you and will miss you, all my cyberfriends.

Sincerely,
Aloha Bob
