The following things have interested me in my research about this country.
(press backspace to return to this page after clicking on the pictures)
 | the perpetual functioning of the society under a seemingly harsh communist
rule - after the American fear of communism during the Cold and Vietnam
wars, it is surprising how the society can still function and the country
can hold a position in world politics. |
 |
the diversity of environments - industrial-based cities to lush
rainforests - Although Vietnam is now more Westernised than it had been
before, many parts of the country still bear natural beauty. |

 |
the hospitality of natives to foreigners - it is
surprising how friendly the natives in the cities and rural areas are -
almost all of the time, they will go out of their way to help you. |
 | the slow, but positive reformation of the people after the Vietnam War
- the scars of the Vietnam War can still be very clearly seen today. This,
however, has not damaged the people, rather the buildings. Today, very few
of the Vietnamese people have anti-Western sentiment. |
 | the richness and diversity of the cuisine and culinary practices -
researching at my computer on food, I found myself salivating at the sight
of all the wonderfully rich food that the Vietnamese are well known for.
What they think are normal meals are really something quite special for
us. |

 | its history - ancient and modern - as has been shown in the French
Historical Link section, Vietnam has undergone many years of rich history.
Being part of the southeast Asian region, it has had many external
influences. Its history, right from the beginning of Chinese occupation,
through French occupation, through the Vietnam War and up to the present day
is interesting. |
