Basic Information

Vigan's tourist potential is based on its cultural heritage composed of more than 180 ancestral houses, administrative and religious structures, public squares and other historical landmarks within the poblacion, and built during the 18th and 19th centuries. Being the only surviving colonial town in the entire Philippines, Vigan is being developed as a primary tourist destination in Region I.

Getting There

By Land

The 405 km stretch from Manila to Vigan is a comfortable seven hour ride along the scenic Ilocos Highway. Partas Bus Co., Dominion and the Philippine Rabbit Bus Line regularly ply the Manila-Vigan route.

By Air

Laoag International Airport is serviced thrice a week by Philippine Airlines to and from Manila. Public transportation is available for trips from Laoag City to Vigan which is 80 kilometers or 1 1/2 hour drive away.

Getting Around 

One can move around Vigan on a "calesa" tour or tricycle. Minibuses and jeepneys provide transportation from Vigan to other municipalities and neighboring provinces. 

Accommodations

Ancestral houses turned into cozy hotels and pensiones to cater to the billeting requirements of visitors feature a unique ambiance. Resorts outside the poblacion are alternative accommodations in rural settings.

Local Cuisine

All hotels and resorts have dining facilities. Don't forget to order longanisa, bagnet, pinakbet or dinengdeng. The kiosks at Plaza Burgos offer sinanglao, arroz caldo, miki, empanada and okoy. Lumo, pipian, caldereta and pinapaitan are served in carinderias at the Bus Terminal and Vigan Public Market, where local sweets like dudol, dila-dila, patupat and sinambong are also available.

Shopping

Antiques, souvenir items and Vigan furniture at bargain prices are found in shops lining Crisologo and Plaridel Streets. Native crafts abound at the Vigan Public Market.

Having Fun

To beat the heat of then day, you can soak in the pools of Naturales Pavillion, Mom's Courtyard or El-Juliana Hotel...or play bowling at TAJ Resort... or invite yourself  to a game or two with local tennis buffs at the Vigan Tennis Club... Cafe Leona Videoke Bar and Halftime Sportsbar, 8.88 Videoke are perfect settings for a night of singing and dancing with friends. Public beaches are in Mindoro and San Pedro, both coastal barangays of Vigan.
