Throttle Body Service | |||
| This page is written by Ameen Rizvi. Do it at your own risk. When a car gets old(92-94 is getting old) the throttle body gets dirty. This may clog up the air passages and the ICM (idle control motor) causing lumpy idle and poor performance. This are the steps in which you can remove your throttle body and clean it and then replace it. This also could be the procedures of adding a aftermarket throttle body which i plan on doing in the future. The time required in this service is 30min-1hr depending on how mechanically inclined your are. | |||

Tools needed: Wrachet 10mm Socket 12mm Socket Phillipshead Screwdriver Flathead Screwdriver Pliers Heavy duty scissors( if you dont wanna buy another gasket) Throttle Body Gasket(recommended, but i didnt buy another one)

MAKE SURE THE CAR IS COOLED OFF Coolant lines go to the Throttle body and they could spray out at you when the car is hot.(dont ask me how i know this) Step 1:Remove the Air Box and the hose to the Throttle body. This will require the use of a screwdriver and the 10mm Socket. When you have the air box out remove the vacuum line to the top of the throttle body ,the ICM clip, and then the orange hose on the top. |

| Step 2:Take the throttle cable off the wing by opening the throttle all the way then taking the cable off the slot. |

| Step 3:Using the 12mm Socket, take the 4 bolts off the throttle body connecting it to the intake manifold. When you have them off, play with the alternator clip that is restricing the throttle body to come off. Also if you have a new gasket waiting, yank the throttle body off. Otherwise, Cut the top O-ring to separate the two ply gasket.When the throttle body is off, the coolant lines are still attached. Wearing gloves and proper eye saftey equipment, take the coolant lines off the throttle body. |

| Step 4:Now you have the throttle body off. I recommend using STP intake cleaner and just reeking havoc on the throttle body. Use a towel to clean all that gunk off. Remember to spray in all the holes and crevices, intake cleaner wont hurt anything. Also spray in the intake manifold. Just make sure to soak up most of the cleaner that is in the manifold.Fun-tipYou can feel and play around with the secondary intake valves in the intake manifold. They are like mini throttle bodies lined up 5 in a row in the manifold!. |

| Step 5:After using the whole can of STP on the throttle body:-), Its time to put it back. Repeat all the steps that you did just reverse it. Make sure the coolant lines are on correct. |
