Kasthurba Gandhi Kanya Gurukulam was a pivot of services to the Tsunami victims immediately after the disaster.

At the time of crisis, Gurukulam was involved in immediate rescue operations after rushing to the spot and provided remedial services of every kind. The organization provided shelter to the homeless, especially to women and children and took good care of them.

It had been the seat of guidance to Rescue teams, Women welfare community, Missionaries, Lady medicos, Nurses and Women police. Gurukulam helped in hospitalizing the victims of the disaster and also helped in removal of corpses.

Gurukulam continuously supplied food for the victims, the police, fire and Government officials, patients and refugees involved in the rescue operations. Gurukulam was involved in immediate relief distribution of materials such as rice, cereals, tamarind, food, packaged drinking water, blankets, biscuits, ready mix food powders, clothes, mats, utensils and sanitary materials like bleaching powders and disinfectants.  Gurukulam arranged for ample medical care including face masks,  gloves and intra-muscular injections for immunization.

We assisted St.John Ambulance, Care India, youth Red Cross of Coimbatore. P.S.G. Institutions, Roots horn Industry of Coimbatore ( associated institution of Sri Swami Satchidananda of Integral Yoga Institute, Coimbatore ) various N.G.O’s from Tirupur, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruvannamalai, Chennai S.R.F. Sriram Fibres, Sri Saradha College, Karur students of various colleges etc., in distributing relief materials and in rescue operations.
Gurukulam supported Hospitals, Fire fighting rescue teams and Ambulance departments.

Whenever there was a call to excavate bodies we rushed for help.

    

We are persistent to do long term relief work providing the Tsunami victims every kind of support to make them survive and lead a normal life.
 

The requisites we face to serve in such times of crisis, where anybody can join us:

  • Elevated halls to enable rescue operations in times of such calamity
  • Protected, treated water supply schemes
  • Repairs, completion of compound walls, to keep away goats and pigs from entering flooring of the ground, more buildings and cots to the Government Hospital at Vedaraniam.
  • Arranging Health centres at various coastal villages.
  • Protective walls and bunds with boulders at sea side and at Gurukulam campus to to protect children of regular and disaster time refugees.
  • Health centre in Gurukulam with oxygen and resurrection equipments.
  • Completion of school buildings in the place of removed thatched sheds, in view of Kumbakonam school fire tragedy.   -Ambulances.
  • Inflabable like jackets.
