November 2007
Dear Parent/Guardian;
Another wrestling season is just around the corner and your child has
indicated that he/she would like to be a member of this year’s Lucas
Viking Wrestling Team. Ms. McLennan and I will be working
together again this year to make this season an enjoyable and
successful one.
I’d like to take to this opportunity to pass along some pre-season
information. Athletes at Lucas are expected to maintain acceptable
grades and to attend all of their classes. Each wrestler is
responsible for informing his/her teachers well in advance about any
classes they may miss due to wrestling activities, and they are also
expected to catch up on any missed work.
This year, the team will be practicing on the stage until further
notice. Practices will take place between Mondays and Fridays,
from 3pm ‘til 5pm. I expect each wrestler to attend all practices
unless they have spoken to the coaches in advance regarding
appointments or prior commitments. Our season is very intensive
and wrestlers require regular practice to improve their skill level and
reduce the risk of injury.
I have not received a complete schedule for the upcoming season;
however, there are several tournaments that have been pre-scheduled in
which we would like to participate. Some of these tournaments are
local; others require travel outside the area. A tentative
schedule is posted on our web site. I will send out more specific
information regarding each tournament as they approach.
The cost to participate on the wrestling team this year will be $65.00
in addition to the school athletic fee. This cost includes a
wrestling team long sleeve and will also cover some of the costs of
tournaments and wrestling events the team attends. The school
will cover the rest of the costs incurred by the team.
Medical Forms and Extra-Curricular Agreement forms will be sent home
and must be signed by a parent/guardian before a wrestler may
participate in any tournaments or school meets. Also, drivers are
always needed, so please fill out the Parent-Driver Permission form if
you are interested in driving athletes to and/or from events.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to visit our
web site at www.oocities.org/vikeswrestling, or contact me anytime at
the school.
See you on the mat!
Sincerely,
G. Howard
Wrestling Coach
