Darkthrone
1990 "Soulside Journey" 1990

1991 "A Blaze Across the Northern Sky" 1991

1993 "Under a Funeral Moon" 1993

1994 "Transilvanian Hunger" 1994

The last rays of sunset leave the tree tops in the face of the night. The fear is coming over the forest, and the "Transilvanian Hunger" is covering a deserted spot on the edge of a wood...
This beautiful album started out from the track of the same name is very gripping with intelligent music structure. Despite some monotonous sounding, Darkthrone goes about their brand of metal quite well. All instruments are played competently, and succeed in conveying a mood, even if that mood is suitable only for night meditation that may be a thing what the band does create. The other thing that really is pleasure for me is the profound vocals which aren't so annoying as Immortal's ones. Moreover vocals aren't as sharp as on their later releases, and have some beautiful interlacing with songwriting and melody...

1995 "Panzerfaust" 1995

"This album is dedicated to Satyr of Satyricon".
This little inscription you can see inside the booklet. Moreover, the front cover is made in a dark majestic style with the forest tinted by the full moon light. And finally this record has been issued under "Moonfog" label. All of these elements show us exactly that "Panzerfaust" is the worth record in the world of black metal. It isn't the record by this great band that tends to allow for easy initial listens. Darkthrone is a first tier band in Norwegian scene, using of Celtic Frost's riffs with their positively dark personal melodies. With a entrenching in "To mega Therion"'s mood being utilized, Darkthrone's music did indeed transform slightly to acknowledge that old things may be used but not so much that the band's motif was lost. Two of the songs are really wonderful: "En Vind av Sorg" and "The Hordes of Nebulah" are fastest on the album and feature very beautiful written guitar structure. But others sound more slowly in a severe mood of nostalgia saturated by earliest Black Metal stuff. If you enjoy mid-tempo dark inspired Black Metal, you will enjoy this.

1996 "Total Death" 1996

This disc demonstrates once again that Black Metal can be a real answer to the question "What is our attitude to the World having been bogged down in the vain stupid entertainments?
Darkthrone's solid music basement of masterly song writing can serve a real way to understand it. If you want to have to pay too much attention to the Earth's problems you need listening to they dark prophecy.
At the beginning of first soundtrack "Earth's Last Picture" one can hear the huge shift to more Death Metal oriented sound which sometimes recall the sounding lain somewhere between old school Black Metal and Death metal. Fortunately they use this influence sparingly. I think that the best compositions on this album are "Black Victory of Death" and "Ravnajuv" with choruses of blazing very well written guitar lines.
We declare the TOTAL DEATH to filth, hypocrisy and man's weakness.
We declare the TOTAL DEATH to rubbish surrounding us and restricted conception of mankind knowledge.
TOTAL DEATH to posers!
Hail the Northern Metal!

1996 "Goatlord" 1996

1999 "Ravishing Grimness" 1999

This is the best album made by Darkthrone among their solid and powerful black metal releases. Again Darkthrone prefer to place on the front cover the beautiful woodland scenery. And this black&white picture is relevant to assault of warp-speed riffing and aggressive drumming sounding during almost all record. The riffs are truly a remarkable specimen as the production allows for the just correct amount of clarity without sounding polished at all. Speedy and melodic, yet harsh and uncompromising due to the excellent guitar work. But the best thing about this album is that it proves there perfect equilibrium of vocals and all musical outline. All experience used during recording "Ravishing Grimness" permits Fenriz and Nocturno Culto to remain the black metal elite.
If you haven't yet this CD, seek and buy it in the first place, because Darkthrone really know how to express certain part of your life as music.
