Loreena McKennitt
1985 "Elemental" 1985
1987 "To Drive The Cold Winter Away" 1987
1989 "Parallel Dreams" 1989

This record not captures you as following works by absolute finest vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Loreena McKennitt. Not being fully immersed in the Celtic style, (except one song "Huron Beltane Fire Dance", which is absolute masterpice among the other) "Parallel Dreams" is more close to pure ambient like Clannad's "Atlantic Realm", but more intellectual. of course. This CD contains warm harmonies, soaring above equally beautiful instrumentation, but unfortunately doesn't have power and drive inside the music. Text's sence flows between traditional celtic feellings and fascination of nature. Music serves rather for relaxation and ubsequent discs tend to experiment more with tangos and up-tempo melodies; Parallel Dreams, however, is conceived like one long, luscious lullaby to be calmed by Loreena McKennitt's magical voice. If you like to meditate after a hard day or nearly anything else, this CD is for you. But I don't.
