Mephistopheles
1997 "Landscape Symphonies" 1997

When I took this CD I was somewhat surprised. On the front cover there is a splendid castle pictured (or photographed?) in red tones for some reason. Could it be blood covering the ground in an endless stream? Especially if you turn the CD and look on the back cover which is made to imitate Emperor's cover "In the Nightside Eclipse". But after having pressed the button "play" I was really disappointed. Music is something made in vein of early Theatre of Tragedy's stuff being framed in Black Metal's area during some tracks. Mephistopheles've written in the booklet: This album is dedicated to the eternal beauty of nature. What do the grim mugs covered with grease-paint do there? If THIS attributes are to be used with band stuff it should be corroborated by quite appropriate music to THIS environment. But the sounding is far from Black Metal. While this record has been performed by only two men Nordischer Kunstler and Xenien with drum-machine, what were other three men (pictured on the cover) doing during the recording? Despite a rather good sounding, I don't like theirs stupid commercial entourage. This is annoying as well as used primitive lyrics.
