For most of us there has been a time in our life when we heard about or read about a person whom, for whatever reason, seemed to be special, but we never met that person ourselves..  Whether they were a person who had wit or one who performed some heroic deed or overcame tragedy at some point in there life.  They were just a person who seemed larger then life itself.  Whatever the reason they seemed to stand out  to all who knew them.  This next poem is about just such a person - Although I had never made the pleasure of his aquaintance when he was living, because of the love his family still holds for him and because at one time they cared enough about me to share it, I feel like I know him too.   This poem is dedicated to his memory. Another from the heart!  Enjoy!

A Man I Never Knew....
In Memory of W.A.O.

There once was a man I never knew, whose story I've been told
By his youngest son who respected him as he withered and grew old.

Yet, Once he was a strapping young man, who served his countries needs
Thank God that there were men like him to perform those heroic deeds.

He survived the war and upon his return his young wife and he moved West.
Where they raised 3 sons and a daughter, working hard they did their best.

And as the years passed slowly on, their children now all grown.
They learned to dance together, just the 2 of them alone.

They say he was gregarious and admired by all he knew.
And when he spoke about his life, Sometimes a crowd he drew.

She was his other shoe , his other sock, his other glove.
She stood by him for 50 Years, I'd say they had true love.

He's been gone for 6 years now and they miss him every day.
They remember all the silly things he use to do or say.

It's been hard on his youngest son who's pain my heart can feel
He tries to hide it from me but alas he can't conceal.

He wishes he had one last chance, just to say goodbye....
He wishes he had been with him when his time came to die....

But what he doesn't realize, although, you think he would
His Father's soul feels all his pain and knows he did all he could.

There once was a man I never knew, although I wish I had,
For he sounds like quite a Hero, for a husband and a Dad.
