| The Four Year Invasion
By: Laura Payne We're being invaded. They've taken over our televisions, radios, magazines, and basically the entire country. They've spent big bucks plastering their names and faces on commercials, posters, bumper stickers, and the sides of buildings and busses. So, who are these maniacs? The two main candidates for President, the men who want to run our country for the next four years, Republican candidate George W. Bush and Democrat candidate Al Gore. If you think about it, they both must have a few screws loose. Apparently, they think of the American people as a bunch of airheads who will vote for whoever has the most bumper stickers on cars in the Foodtown parking lot. Why else would they make an obscene amount of stickers? Both candidates are promising more tax benefits for middle class families, like most people who live here in South Brunswick. But what do these two know about what we need? They were both born to wealthy parents and attended Ivy League universities. They have millions of dollars to spend on their campaigns and I don't think either them have had a money worry in their entire life. Take George Bush. Oh, excuse me, George W. Bush. Can't forget that important little letter. The guy is running because America wants a fresh start and a new leader... Americans have become disillusioned...by what they see in Washington. Obviously, Bush forgot his father used to be President. He also brought up the fact that $250,000 was being spent by our nation to research caffeine chewing gum in his opening statement on his AOL web page. If this is what is on the forefront of Bush's mind, is he really safe to be put into office? Just ask Texas. Also, he says he is pro-life, yet Texas has the highest number of people put to death under the death penalty. How does that make him pro-life? On the other hand, Al Gore isn't exactly the most lovable guy, either. Apparently, he thinks that he invented the internet. He also has commented about a fresh start and a new beginning for the White House. The guy has been Clinton's right hand man for the last eight years! I guess both candidates suffer from memory loss. His facial expressions during debates have prompted many renditions on Saturday Night Live. Would you be able to stand seeing this know-it-all as our President? Moreover, their snobbishness is outrageous; they refused to let third party candidates in on their debates! They yack about campaign finances yet both have spent millions and millions of dollars on a campaign that nobody will remember in fifty years. This year, the election isn't about what candidate you like more, it's about which one you hate less. So get out to those polls. It's going to be an interesting four years. |
