| Students Against Drinking And Driving
By: Rochelle Lauren Gerszberg Despite all the publicity generated against drinking and driving in the past few years, alcohol related traffic fatalities continue to be a major cause of death. Students Against Drinking and Driving was established to reduce this tragic loss of life. It emphasizes positive peer pressure to encourage students to look out for one another. The phrase "friends don't let friends drink and drive" is more than a slogan. SADD is successful because it has been willing to allow students to take on increased responsibility (especially for their own lives). SADD does not condone underage drinking, but recognizes the problems it creates. SADD deals with these problems by working to create an atmosphere, where all people (both young and old) can feel that "it's ok not to drink". YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! SADD is becoming a major force across America and there are a number of chapters at schools all over. South Brunswick High School does in fact support SADD. SADD chapters organize and sponsor functions to help, display booths, floats in community parades, making public service announcements, chemical free social activities focusing on fun, not booze, drama productions, mock trials, mock accidents, red ribbon campaign, and making presentations on SADD to other schools and groups. Members of the SADD chapter at South Brunswick High School simulated a serious accident in which the car driver was killed. The display is on the school property and SADD organized the mock disaster to remind people that drinking and driving don't mix. Be smart, be safe, DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE! |
