Entering South Window after the fall of Muse:
[Riou, Nanami, Pilika, Rina, Eilie, and Bolgan arrive in South Window.
Walking into the city, Riou suddenly gets an exclamation mark over his
head and they stop. Viktor sees the group and jumps up and down.]
Viktor:
"Hey, you're finally here. Over here Riou!"
Eilie:
"Who's that speaking in such a loud voice over there? Is that person a
friend of yours Riou?"
Riou:
[ ] "Well sort of....."
[x] "That's Viktor."
[ ] "That's Bear."
Eilie:
"Yeah, that's right. Hey come over here."
[Viktor walks up to them.]
Viktor:
"Ha ha ha ha ha! So you made it.... good. The others that escaped from
Muse scattered all over the place and I'm having a hard time finding
'em...."
[Viktor notices the girls. He walks over to Eilie and gives her a look.
A question mark appears over Riou's head as Viktor does this. Next,
Viktor goes over to Rina and gives her an even closer look. Then, he
nudges Riou.]
Viktor:
"Hey hey hey! Riou! How did you ever meet such beautiful ladies?
You're pretty good with women I see."
[Eilie steams.]
Eilie:
"Hey! How dare you!"
[Rina gets a happy little musical note over her head.]
Rina:
"Hoo hoo hoo."
[Nanami hops up and down and steps forward.]
Nanami:
"Huh? What? Beautiful? Do you mean me?"
[Everyone looks at Nanami. She sweatdrops and steps back.]
Viktor:
"............ Hey where's Jowy?"
Pilika:
"................................."
Yes, twenty-eight dots. I think that's the record for the game.
Riou:
[x] "Well actually......"
[ ] "..................."
[Screen fades to black for Riou's explanation.]
Viktor:
"I see........ I heard that Anabelle was assassinated but....... I
couldn't really believe that..."
"Well....... There must be some explanation.. Anyway, come over here.
Flik is in the tavern too. We'll have a reunion."
[Viktor walks off. Riou is free to talk to townspeople.]
Man in front of item store:
"Hey, did ya hear the rumor about the monster in North Window, northwest
of here? He attacked a whole bunch of people."
Old man in a house:
"Hmmm, what story should I tell today? Oh yeah, I'll tell ya 'bout the
monster of North Window. It used to be a nice little town with a
beautiful view of the lake. If only it hadn't happened the way it
did....."
Kid in house:
"The Cave of the Wind, west of here, is haunted. I heard there's a
scary voice coming from inside there."
Second kid in house:
"I'm going to the cave. I've gotta show everyone how brave I am."
Little girl outside:
"The boys are gonna go to the cave west of here to test their bravery
even though they know they'll get in trouble."
Entering the inn:
Flik:
"You did a good job surviving, Riou. Nanami and Pilika too."
Viktor:
"Sorry to be so sudden, but I've got bad news. Come this way."
[The group moves closer to Viktor.]
Viktor:
"Well anyway, listen to my story."
[Screen fades to black for his story.]
Viktor:
"....so we've had a pretty rough time too. In fact we just arrived here
yesterday."
Flik:
"Because this guy wanted to make a lot of side trips."
Viktor:
"Well we got here, so you can't complain. Anyway, I was just waiting
for everyone else to arrive."
Nanami:
"What about Leona and the others?"
Viktor:
"Nope. Not here yet. We were the first and then you arrived."
Flik:
"Everyone else will probably be here soon enough."
Nanami:
"I hope they're all okay."
Flik:
"Me too."
Viktor:
"Well it's time for us to meet the mayor of this town, Granmeyer. Riou,
I want you and your friends to come along with me."
Rina:
"You're planning on making the Mayor your client?"
Viktor:
"That's about it. I'm going around trying to collect friends that have
scattered all over the place. After I've collected them, we'll need a
place to keep them. We'll also need money to feed 'em all."
[Nanami jumps up and down.]
Nanami:
"I'm going too!"
Rina:
"I'll be here enjoying my tea."
Eilie:
"I don't want to be so formal...."
Pilika:
"........................."
Bolgan:
"Be back soon."
Flik:
"City Hall is east of here. Just walk a bit, you'll find it."
[Riou, Nanami, Viktor, and Flik go to City Hall.]
Man at the door:
"You're Viktor and Flik, right. I heard about you. Please go in."
[Fade to inside of Granmeyer's office.]
Granmeyer:
"You did well to survive such a horrendous defeat, Viktor."
Viktor:
"Glad to see you're well also, Lord Granmeyer."
Granmeyer:
"Muse has fallen to Highland and South Window is now in peril. Your
reputation precedes you and I'd like to retain your services."
Viktor:
"But of course, my lord. I'd be proud to help. Right now I'm
gathering lost colleagues who fled from Muse."
Granmeyer:
"Yes. I'm counting on you. By the way, you were born in North Window,
weren't you?"
Viktor:
"Well, yes..."
Granmeyer:
"Freed."
[Freed steps forward.]
Freed Y:
"Yes. Recently there have been several incidents involving young girls
disappearing near North Window. Troops we've sent to investigate report
that some type of monster is living in North Window."
Granmeyer:
"Viktor. You know North Window better than anyone.. I know it will be
hard for you, but please investigate the village for me."
Viktor:
"......................... Well, I ahhhh.... I guess so."
Granmeyer:
"My assistant, Freed, will accompany you. Please find out what happened
to those poor girls."
[Freed steps in front of them.]
Freed Y:
"I'm Freed. Viktor, thank you for agreeing to help the city of South
Window. Let's fight together. I'm at your service."
Viktor:
"Ah yes, well ahh... okay."
[They leave Granmeyer's office. In the hall, they stop.]
Nanami:
"Hey hey hey. I don't get it. If you're from North Window, why is it
going to be 'hard for you'?"
Viktor:
"You'll understand when you see it. Anyway, let's head back."
[They leave. Fade to FMV of Neclord playing a pipe organ. When that's
over, go back to the inn.]
Rina:
"How did it go?"
Viktor:
"Well, it looks like he's willing to part with some gold, but I have to
do a favor first."
[Rina notices Freed.]
Rina:
"Who are you?"
Freed Y:
"Forgive me, I'm Lord Granmeyer's assistant, Freed. I've been ordered
to accompany you to North Window. Consider me at your service."
Rina:
"Very polite, aren't you."
Viktor:
"Well, anyway, I've got to go to North Window. Are you gonna come
along, Riou?"
[Nanami jumps up and down.]
Nanami:
"I'm going too. I'm interested to see what kind of place this North
Window is."
Eilie:
"I'm kind of interested too."
Rina:
"Yeah, I'll bet. Hoo hoo. I'll wait here. Someone's got to watch this
kid."
[Rina walks over to Pilika.]
Pilika:
"........................"
Bolgan:
"Okay, Pilika, we'll stay here."
Flik:
"Well see ya........"
[Rina steps up to Flik.]
Rina:
"Say, would you like to have tea with me? I'm so bored by myself."
Flik:
"Huh? Me? I've got a friend...."
Pilika:
"......................."
Bolgan:
"......................."
[Viktor approaches Flik.]
Viktor:
"Well, I'm leaving, so do whatever you want."
Flik:
"Wait, why do I...."
[Rina steps close to Flik.]
Rina:
"What? You don't like me?"
Flik:
"No, no, that's not it....."
Viktor:
"Okay, Flik, I'm countin' on you."
Freed Y:
"Well let's go then. North Window is northwest of here. Right,
Viktor?"
Viktor:
"Yeah, that's right. But if you know that much, I don't think you need
me."
[Riou is free to talk the ones who are staying behind.]
Flik:
"Well do your best. We'll be doing our best too..."
Rina:
"Good luck, Riou, Eilie....."
Bolgan:
"Come back safely."
Entering North Window Village:
[They enter the village. It's empty, with lots of crudely marked
graves.]
Nanami:
"So this is..... North Window? Viktor's home town?...... I'm
sorry....... Sorry I asked before....."
Viktor:
"Ha ha. It's like I told you. It's a ghost town."
Eilie:
"A ghost town? What happened here? What are all those graves?"
Viktor:
"The graves are the graves of the villagers who once lived here. Many
years ago, this place was attacked by the vampire, Neclord. He killed
everyone for his amusement, then he sucked out all their blood. I
happened to be away from the village, so I was saved. When I saw this,
I dug the graves as best I could... But anyway, that was a long time
ago. It all ended when I destroyed Neclord with my own hands."
???? (off-screen):
"Hmmm. An interesting story."
[An exclamation point appears over Viktor's head. The screen scrolls up
to reveal Neclord. He approaches the group.]
Viktor:
"Y... you!!!! How!!!!"
Neclord:
"Did you really believe you could destroy an undead vampire? Ha ha ha.
I like this place. Thanks to you, Viktor, the corpses were in nice
shape."
[Neclord raises his arm and a bunch of zombies rise up out of the
earth.]
Neclord:
"But look! Your face has turned white as a ghost, pardon the pun.
What's wrong? Do you see someone you recognize? Ha ha ha ha ha!!!"
Viktor:
"You bastard!!!!!!"
Neclord:
"Ha ha ha. This is your punishment for what you did to my body....
This is my revenge."
Eilie:
"Those dead bodies aren't playthings for you to mess around with!"
Nanami:
"That's right! You're in big trouble now!!! Riou is gonna get you!!!"
Neclord:
"You're brave young girls. I like that. I find brave young girls
most..... delicious. I'll take both of you as my brides to live with me
for eternity."
Riou:
[x] "I won't let you."
[ ] "Let's run away."
Viktor:
"Stop, Riou."
Neclord:
"Well then, will you fight me?"
[They fight. This is an unwinnable battle. Don't waste your healing
items.]
Viktor:
"It's no good...... To destroy him, we need....."
Neclord:
"The Star Dragon Sword, was it? Why don't you go get it? This time
I'll destroy that sword. It caused me great pain.... If you wish to
meet me again, I'll be waiting to greet you in that castle over there."
[Neclord and his zombies disappear in a flash of light.]
Eilie:
"What was that? Who was that strange, nasty man!!"
Viktor:
"Bah. He's nothing. ...Rune of the Night, indeed!!! That Neclord
creep, He was scared of us!!!!"
Freed Y:
"So he's the reason little girls have been disappearing... We can't
just ignore this!!!!"
Nanami:
"What's that sword the vampire was talking about?"
Viktor:
"The rune that Neclord holds makes him immune to sword and magic. Only
the Star Dragon Sword can seal off that rune's power. I borrowed its
power last time I fought Neclord. He says he's an incarnation of one of
the '27 True Runes'...."
Nanami:
"Wait a minute. What do you mean, 'he says'?"
Viktor:
"It's hard to explain... Anyway, let's go get the Star Dragon Sword.
Okay, Riou?"
Riou:
[ ] "Don't make decision for me."
[x] "Okay."
Viktor:
South of here is a place called the Cave of the Wind. In the deepest
part of the cave, the Star Dragon Sword..... should I say 'sleeping' or
'waiting' or perhaps 'hiding' would be closer to the truth..."
Eilie:
"What? I'm not hiding anything."
I'm not sure, but I think that is perhaps the stupidest line in the
game.
[Viktor sweattles.]
Viktor:
"Anyway, let's go to the Cave of the Wind."
Freed Y:
"Okay. Let's hurry. Before more people lose their lives."
At the Cave of the Wind:
[The mouth of the cave is blocked with boulders.]
Viktor:
"Hey, this is it. The cave's behind this boulder. There's always a
breeze blowing through it, so they call it the Cave of the Wind. When I
was a kid, we used to come here to test our bravery. But be careful,
there are monsters living in there now."
[Screen fades to black, then back to the same scene with the boulders
out of the way.]
Freed Y:
"And the Star Dragon Sword is in there?"
[Viktor sweatdrops.]
Viktor:
"Yeah...... I'll bet it's waiting for me...."
Eilie:
"Something strange is going on. Are you hiding anything?
[They enter the cave and work their way back quite a ways. A man (Kahn)
is waiting in one of the rooms of the cave.]
Viktor:
"Who are you? What are you doing hanging around here?
Kahn:
"I was waiting for you, Viktor."
Viktor:
"How do you know my name! Are you one of Neclord's slaves!!"
Kahn:
"Don't get so excited. I understand your feelings though.
Neclord....... You're not the only one that has a grudge against him,
you know."
Viktor:
"So you want a piece of him too, eh....."
Kahn:
"Yes..... The Marley family has been hunting vampires for generations.
My father and his father before him both hunted Neclord Ever since I was
a young boy, I vowed that I would destroy him. In the name of the
Marley family, I swear I will destroy him!!!"
My theory is that Kahn's Resurrection Rune has the 'Redundant
Speech' side effect.
Viktor:
"So what do you want from me?"
Kahn:
"My business isn't with you... It's with the Star Dragon Sword and the
Rune of the Night. Neclord is using his "Doppelganger Secret" to make a
double of himself. The Neclord that you defeated wasn't the true
Neclord."
Viktor:
"Doppelganger....... You mean it was a fake?"
Kahn:
"He's a vampire who's lived for hundreds of years. He's learned a few
tricks in that time. But if we use the Night Rune to cast his spirit
out and then seal it. I think we'll be able to capture his spirit.
[Viktor steams.]
Viktor:
"That stupid sword... whadda ya mean 'Night Rune'?.... He's the reason
we didn't beat Neclord the first time!!!!!"
Kahn:
"Well... I know one thing, without the Star Dragon Sword, we've got no
chance to defeat Neclord. That's why I was waiting for you. I knew
you'd be coming to get it."
Viktor:
"If you knew where it was, why don't you use that dumb old Star Dragon
Sword yourself?"
Kahn:
"No. That sword was not meant for my hands. In any case, the way it
looks......"
[Viktor sweatdrops.]
Viktor:
"That's what I figured....."
Kahn:
"So may I travel with you? After all, our goal is the same."
Riou:
[ ] "No way."
[x] "Sure."
Kahn:
"Thank you. Well then, shall we retrieve the Star Dragon Sword."
[Kahn joins the party and they go farther into the cave. They reach
where the Star Dragon Sword is stuck in a rock.]
Eilie:
"This is the....... Star Dragon Sword?"
Viktor:
"So how have you been, pal?"
Star Dragon Sword (SDS):
"........................."
[Viktor sweatdrops.]
Viktor:
"Huh? What's wrong? Are you alive? You're not mad, are you?"
Eilie:
"What do you expect, calling him 'stupid', 'dumb'.... You've got to
speak to him with more respect...."
[There is a large flash of light.]
SDS:
"Viktor..... You have the nerve to come back to the place where you
abandoned me so many years ago."
Eilie:
"Eh!!!!!!!"
[Viktor sweattles.]
Viktor:
"Did you say 'abandoned'?... Talk about ungrateful.... I figured you
appreciate the quiet and solitude, that's all."
Eilie:
"The... the sword is talking... And Viktor even called him 'pal'...."
SDS:
"Stupid, girl, I'm an incarnation of the Night Rune. I'm not 'pals'
with him or anyone else. This man is nothing more than my servant."
Viktor:
"What did you say, you rusty old piece of scrap metal! Who did you call
a servant!!!"
SDS:
"How dare you tell me to be quiet!...."
Viktor:
"Shut up!!!! You make my head hurt with your constant moaning and
complaining......"
[The Star Dragon Sword lifts itself out of the rock.]
Viktor:
"Huh? H, hey... Hey! W, wait a minute!!!!!"
[The Star Dragon Sword flips so that it's pointing upward. It hovers in
an angry fashion.]
Viktor:
"Uh oh!! It looks like he's really mad. Everyone grab your weapons!"
SDS:
"Now I'll show you!!!!"
[They fight. For this battle, the Star Dragon Sword is three times
taller than Viktor.]
Viktor:
"Huff... huff... huff..... You... you feeling better?......... Don't
get so mad, okay...."
SDS:
What?!!!! Once I get this mad, I fight until my enemies are routed...."
[Viktor sweattles.]
Viktor:
"Yikes!!!!!! Okay, okay. I'm really sorry!!! Forgive me, great god!!!
Please forego your vengeance, oh Star Dragon Sword!!!"
SDS:
"......................... Hmmm.... Very well. But tell me servant,
why did you come back here?"
Viktor:
"Neclord is still alive. Or since he's a vampire, perhaps I should say
'dead'... Anyway, he's back.
SDS:
"You mean that nasty vampire.... I thought I disposed of him....
Kahn:
"Neclord is using his 'Doppelganger Secret'. In other words, he's a
vampire with a powerful rune."
SDS:
"Impudent little bloodsucker. If that's true, perhaps I'll go with
you."
Viktor:
"Cmon, pal,do it for old times sake."
SDS:
"........................."
Viktor:
"I mean.... Please! I beg of you!"
SDS:
"Very well then."
[Viktor steps up to the Star Dragon Sword and it lowers itself to his
hand.]
Viktor:
"Okay, we're ready. Normal attacks don't work on Neclord, but if we can
seal his power with this thing...."
SDS:
"'Thing'?"
Viktor:
"I, uh.... that is if we can seal his power by using the power of the
great Star Dragon Sword, perhaps we can beat him."
Eilie:
"Ha ha ha ha........"
Freed Y:
"Well, now that we're friends again, let's go back to North Window.
It's time to do my job."
[They leave.]
Back at North Window:
Viktor:
"Well, time to kill a vampire. Star Dragon Sword, don't fail this time."
SDS:
"Stupid bag of flesh..."
Kahn:
"First let's go to Neclord's place. I know how to seal off Neclord's
power."
Viktor:
"We're going in, Riou."
[They make their way through the castle to where Neclord is playing on
his pipe organ. I just want to know where this pipe organ is later in
the game. Can't you just see Vincent and Simone wearing Liberace-esque
capes and playing it?]
Neclord:
"I've been waiting for you.... Viktor, Star Dragon Sword and .Eh? is
that the Marley boy? I'm so glad you could come."
Kahn:
"Between the Star Dragon Sword and the vampire hunting secrets of the
Marley family, your time is running out, vampire.
Viktor:
"That's right!!! Get ready to die!!!"
Neclord:
"Wait. Don't be in such a rush. Of course, I understand that..... But
I have my own ideas as well. That's why I summoned you. I have someone
that I'd like you to meet."
[Neclord raises his hand and a girl in a blue dress appears from the
floor. An exclamation point appears above Viktor's head.]
Neclord:
"So what do you think? Feeling nostalgic? Her name is... Daisy, isn't
it?"
Viktor:
"B, bastard...."
Neclord:
"Well? Do you give up? Just hand the Star Dragon Sword to me, and I'll
let you have the girl, okay?"
Daisy:
"V.... Viktor.....?"
Viktor:
"D, Daisy..."
[Viktor steps forward.]
Riou:
[ ] "Don't give him the sword."
[x] "........................."
Kahn:
"Viktor!!!! If we lose the Night Rune, we'll never be able to defeat
Neclord!!!!"
Neclord:
"He he he he he he"
Daisy:
"V..... Viktor..... He..... help me......."
Viktor:
"........................."
Neclord:
"What's wrong with you! Hand that sword over to me."
[Viktor walks up to Daisy and puts his hand on her shoulder. He bows
his head.]
Viktor:
"Star Dragon Sword........"
SDS:
"Do whatever you like."
Viktor:
"A lot of years have passed since then..... It was so long ago that I
can barely even remember her face... Okay...... Listen to me,
bloodsucker!!!!! I know that once a person is dead, they're gone
forever!!!!! Viktor here isn't stupid enough to be fooled by your
little drama!!!!"
[During the last bit of that speech, Viktor took a step back and raised
his sword. At the end of it, he strikes Daisy. Her head goes flying
off and her body drops. It looks almost like her body was hollow. He
than raises his sword again.]
Viktor:
"Let's go, pal!!!!"
SDS:
"Watch what you call me!!!"
Nanami:
"Let's go Riou!! We've got to destroy him!!!"
Riou:
[x] "Yeah!!!"
[ ] "Careful how you talk to me!!"
Neclord:
"Y, you...... Well anyway, we've got bigger things to worry about, so
I''m sorry."
Kahn:
"Wait!!!"
Neclord:
"Farewell, we'll meet again."
[Neclord disappears in a flash of light.]
Viktor:
"#%&#!!!!!"
Kahn:
"He'll be back, Viktor."
[Scene fades into battle with the Abomination--a spider-like, zombie-ish
creature with five heads. It's easily the most disturbing-looking
monster in the game. After the battle, Viktor lowers his sword and
shakes.]
Viktor:
"Crap! He got away!!! Crap! Crap! Crap!"
Kahn:
"..........................."
[Scene fades to the group standing in the room that will become the
entrance to the baths.]
Freed Y:
"......................... Anyway, we accomplished our mission and
Neclord has fled. We should go back to South Window and give our
report."
Viktor:
"..... Yeah, I guess you're right."
[They step outside.]
Kahn:
"Well then, goodbye for now. I'm going to follow Neclord. When I find
him, I'll send word to you."
Viktor:
"Okay, thanks."
[Kahn leaves. The group walks toward the gate. They are met by Flik,
Apple, Rina, Leona, Bolgan, Tsai, and Pilika.]
Nanami:
"Eh? Eh? What happened? Where is everyone?"
Flik:
"..........South Window has fallen to Highland......."
[An exclamation point appears over Freed's head and he jumps really
high, then he sweattles and runs up to Flik.]
Freed Y:
"What did you say? Is it....is it true? What happened to Lord
Granmeyer?"
[Flik turns and steps away from him.]
Flik:
"Killed...by Solon Jhee......."
Freed Y:
"No...No it can't be... Lord Granmeyer........."
