Washington -- Chicago native Suzanne Struglinski let her fingers do the
walking last night as she reached out to grab the jacket, and then pants,
YES PANTS, of U2 lead singer Bono.
Struglinski along with co-worker and fellow U2 enthusiast Michael Ball
acquired floor space at the very tip of "the heart" or the center of the
general admission area. They were about three people deep from the baracade.
Struglinski, a reporter by day, surged to the front of the crowd as Bono
made his way to the tip of the heart-shapped walkway over the floor of the
MCI Center. As the Irishman leaned out into the crowd, Struglinski joined,
and battled with, dozens of fans attempting to reach out an touch him.
"I just touched Bono's jacket! I just touched Bono's jacket!" she was heard
to scream several dozen times.
In addition, a fan dislodged Struglinski's grip on the jacket, causing her
to briefly touch Bono's pants, slightly stroking his leg.
Ball was unable to comment because of post-concert deafness, except to say,
"Yeah, Suzanne is crazy." Reportedly, Ball was afraid his shirt would be
torn up because Struglinski was constantly pulling on his sleeve, yelling,
"I can't believe I'm seeing U2. Oh my God, Oh my God." No charges have been
pressed, but Ball does think the girl is a little nuts.
Other highlights included a performance of Desire by the entire band on the
walkway...again a mere three feet in front of them. Other songs included
Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bad (yay for Nel and Rob), Where the Streets Have No
Name, I Will Follow, One, Elevation, Mysterious Ways and the list goes on.
The only let down, Struglinski said, was that she was unable to dance with
Bono during "With or Without You," despite the efforts of two young men who
lifted her above the crowd in an attempt to get Bono's attention. Also,
Struglinski had threatened to not leave the floor of the arena until the
band re-emerged to play "Angel of Harlem." Although the song was not played,
she floated out of the MCI Center on a cloud of pure hapiness.
