"With 'Ville serving and holding a 12-9 lead, Nate Gajecki pounded a jump serve at Kings. Kings received the ball, and their setter put up a perfect back-set to Adam Lewis, who blasted the ball high off of the 'Ville block of Ryan Wood and John Wagaman. The ball sailed back toward the left corner of the court, where Erick Macek made a high diving desperation lunge to save the ball. Macek's effort redirected the ball toward the 'Ville bench, where Tracey Schafer's dive carried him into the bench, but not before he managed to again redirect the ball toward the middle of the back line. With the ball heading toward the back wall and already passed the end line, Nate Gajecki, running at full tilt toward the ball and the wall, threw himself into the air, sailed feet first under the ball, and executed a perfect round-house bicycle kick from off the court that propelled the ball back over his head, toward the net, and high up near the rafters. Barely missing the rafters, the ball crossed the net into Kings court, and travelled passed the three meter line, where Lewis delivered a near perfect pass to his setter. Kings setter then delivered the ball to his middle hitter, who cut the ball back to his left. Matt Shetzline dug the hit, passing the ball to the left center of the net. Gajecki came racing in to set, but Wagaman had already stepped in, and waved Gajecki off, setting Shetzline near the right antenna. Shetzline buried the ball inside of Kings double block for the point. The already frenzied home crowd exploded with exhaltation, as the entire 'Ville bench lept into the air in unison with the players on the court. As Gajecki ran an impromptu victory lap around his teammates, Kings stood in stunned disbelief at what had just transpired. A shaken Kings team called time out to regroup and the 'Ville bench flooded the court to join their comrades in savoring the moment. That play drove the final nail into Kings coffin." |
