The Aspartame (Nutrasweet) Toxicity Info Center is a website that contains various documentation on the toxicity of products containing aspatarme along with general information about it. Although the site is very interesting and the information looks valid enough, the page itself is not very well designed or maintained.
Some parts of the apper to be updated only every couple months, such as the "what's new" section. I have found a several broken links. There is no date on the page that indicates when is was last update nor does it say who maintains it. On the positive side much of the information provided on this site does say where it came from and when. Also there a places on the webpage that refer to other sites that have more information which support the validity of what is on this page. As for how opinionated the site is, it clearly is apparent the site was made by people against using aspartame in food and drink. But they still manage to remain fairly objective and state mainly facts and try to avoid presenting any biased opinions.
All in all, this website my not have the best design, but it is enough to serve its purpose. I find myself wondering why aspartame is still allowed in food product when it is known how harmful it can be. The answer I reach is that the businesses who make the products are more concerned about their profits than the well-being of the consumer.
"In 1997 there was an increase in aspartame users reporting severe toxicity reactions and damage such as seizures, eye damage and vision loss, confusion, severe migraines, tremors, depression, anxiety attacks, insomnia, etc. In the same years, Ralph Walton, MD, Chairman, The Center for Behavioral Medicine showed that the only studies which didn't find problems with aspartame where those funded by the manufacturer (Monsanto). Note: I feel that this site was listed in the Virginia Tech library bibliography because there are faults in the page
that can make someone question the validity and accuracy of the information presented.
