The day Devon was born, was quite a day. It was a Tuesday, January 12, 1999. I woke up about 8:50 am with some different feeling contractions. I decided to just relax and see if some more come before I would wake up Matt. About 10 minutes later, another one came. This time I thought I better tell Matt of how I've been feeling since almost a month ago I was admitted to the hospital with pre-term contractions and was on 2 weeks of bedrest and 2 weeks of limited activity. Matt was quite surprised and began to time. I had another a few minutes later and then again. I thought to myself, maybe I'll go to the bathroom. As I rolled out of bed, at 9:13 am, that's when it happened....my water broke!!! To much of our surprise, Devon was well on her way, 5 weeks early! She wasn't due to arrive until February 16 (Uncle Mike's b-day!!), so we weren't very prepared for this. Matt went and called the doctor and was informed that I needed to head to the hopsital A.S.A.P. since the bag of waters had broke. SO in a mad rush to get my bag packed we were soon on our way to the hospital by 10 am.
We arrived at Troy Beaumont Hospital at approximately 10:20 am. I was admitted and wisked to birthing room and was settled in by about 10:30 am. It was all happening soo quickly I could remember. Then as they 1st checked me, I had dilated to 4 cm already. One of the nurses that were caring for me was telling the other that I was going to delivery this baby before lunch time, I was like what?! But they said we don't want to miss out lunch break. Of course it was all in fun.
By 11:30 am they checked my progress again, while the nurse was doing this, my parents and Matt's mom had gotten to the hopsital and were waiting patiently to hear word in the waiting room. Before Matt could get back (hense he was only gone a moment or 2) the nurse was on her way out to find him, I had already dilated to 9 cm and I could be starting to feel the urge to push any time now. Soon enough it was that time and it couldn't have went any smoother. By 12:29 pm Devon Morgan Marinco was born weighing 5 lbs. 12 oz. and was 18 inches long. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever saw. Matt and I were and are the happiest and luckiest parents in the whole wide world.
I was discharged 48 hours later, however Devon had to stay an extra day since she was jaundice. Soon enough she came home and it doing wonderfully.
On a side note, Devon's birthday fell on her Great-Nana's birthday of January 12th. Unfortunately Great-Nana passed away losing her battle with liver cancer June 25, 1998. I know if she was still here she would be so thrilled to have seen our little miracle....but I am sure she still is - smiling from up above!!
