Boulder Weekly, Dec. 5-11, 2002. "(...)Football has a tradition of sportsmanship and fairness" (CU President). It is actually a real good opportunity for some college students to riot all over the country. In Ohio, following the defeat of the university's team, more than 50 people were arrested, 20 cars damaged and numerous fires started. In Dec. 2001, Boulder spent more than $40,000 to repair the damage caused by the after-football riots. This year, The CU final match of the season has the whole city preparing for this End-Of-The-World event. Adds asking fans to "behave appropriately" (which, considering the game itself , is what they're doing) are published in the newspapers; the university has now a tough policy: students engaging in riots can lose their in-state tuition or be expulsed from the university; the police is ready as well: SWAT teams and patrol officers will be everywhere on the Hill. Nothing's better than being struck on the head to restore the "tradition of sportsmanship and fairness", right?. |
