Boulder Weekly, July 25-31, 2002

Crossroads Mall is the only indoor mall in Boulder. It is currently in a serious financial crisis: 40% of the stores are now closed and the mall traffic is desperately low. Negociations with a californian company had been conducted for about a year. The negociation ambitious plan was to transform the mall into an urban village with residential units, restaurants and small shops. One of the idea was to have a giant Wal-Mart as a anchor store. But Wal-Mart was not welcome in Boulder, because of its poor economic ethics. Anyway, the deal is now dead and has little chance for rebirth. Noboby knows what to do with the ailing mall.
