November 7, 2001:

In November 2001 , New-yorkers (like many other americans) had to vote for a new mayor to take over the republican mayor Rudolph Giuliani who had already served two terms. Because of term limit, Giuliani was barred from seeking a third term. He used to be in hot water (for instance because of his tough zero tolerance security policy) but gained enormous stature in the weeks following the New-york terrorist attacks. He would have easily won a third term had the law allowed him to run again in this city mainly democratic and he even had considered bending the rules and extending his mayor charge in such exceptional circumstances. Compared to him, the press made the real candidats Green and Bloomberg look prettty transparent.
