Introduction

Walk into any grocery store, super market, or open air market anywhere in the world and you are sure to find one thing in common, fruit of some kind. You'll also find something else at almost every fruit counter, people trying to decide which fruit to pick. Shoppers look for the brightest colors, check for obvious bruises, or squeeze to see if the fruit is hard or soft. If only it were that easy to select fruit that is sweet, juicy, and delicious!

Every fruit is unique, each with its own distinguishing characteristics and methods of selection. Many people, including myself, are often convinced that we have found just the right piece of fruit only to be disappointed when we bite into a dry, tart orange, or a mealy, flavorless peach.

This was my motivation for writing Fruit - The Ripe Pick. This book helps you pick delicious fruit the first time; a handy reference guide you can use again and again.

During my research, I learned much more about fruit than merely how to choose it. Each fruit has a distinct origin and history, trivia information, and unique uses. Adding some of those tidbits in a "Did You Know…" section for every fruit makes this book much more than just a selection guide. It entertains while it educates.

My hope is that you will enjoy and utilize this book wherever and whenever you buy fruit. May you get as much enjoyment out of your next piece of fruit as I got out of sharing this information with you, my readers.

Aloha, Mei-Lin
