Slim's has played host to both Tanya Donelly (Lovesongs for Underdogs tour) and Kristin Hersh (Sky Motel and Strange Angels tours). It's a good sized venue where you can still feel intimate with the band. The raised stage provides an opportunity for everyone to see. Tables in the back provide a place to sit and chat. A balcony level in the far back provides another vantage point, though most likely, you'll want to get close as possible. Perhaps the only negative is the view blocking (from certain angles) support beams that hold up the roof... but hey, they HOLD up the roof.
The bar opposite the main entry way has an abundance of alcohols, from beers to liquors. There's bottled water and soda from the fountain. A kitchen provides standard bar fare, nachos, french fries, etc.
On a trial run, it took about 20 minutes to drive from the Noe Valley Ministry to Slim's. The neighborhood around Slim's is home to the nightclub scene, so figure on another 30 minutes to find nearby parking. Also, the area is mostly one way streets, so take care. Figure on 50 minutes door to door.
