Eight workers and no king
Sunday the T-Mobile Team will send a for classics created team to the start of the Amstel Gold Race in Maastricht, the fourht of ten Worldcupraces. With Erik Zabel (2000) and titel defender Alexander Vinokourov the team has two formal winners in the 251 km long downhill- and moutain race.
Defending yerseys Of course everyone wants to defend the Worldcup yersey of Steffen Wesemann. "Wese carries the yersey of the Worldcup, he is however only a few points in front of Oscar Freire. It depends very much on how the race develops. In any case we will be active", sais Goodefroot.
If it should come to a sprint, then not Wesemann but Erik Zabel is primarily in demand. The leader in the World Ranking List refuelled his self-assurance with its success in "Rund um Köln". "I proved in 2000 that I can win that race. However the final on the Cauberg bacame substantially more difficult, but next to me we've got a few more hot irons on the fire", prognosticates Zabel.
Godefroot gives "free hand" Godefroot gives the alternative-directive. "If a promising top group without Wese, but with another of our riders will form, then our man has free hand. We'll do anything to attack after Paris-Raubaix", explains Godefroot and adds: "I'm an optimist and I'm sure that the winner will shine in a magenta-yersey".
A view to the past gives right to the Belgian. Beside Vinokourov and Zabel, the Dane Bjarne Riis (1997) and Olaf Ludwich (1992) were shining on the stage in the neighbourn country. Source: www.cyclingnews.com |
