Interview with Alexander 09.06.2005 / It doesn't happen every day! By taming the Giant of Provence in such impressive fashion on Thursday at the Dauphiné Libéré, T-Mobile's Alexander Vinokourov has shown that his Tour de France build-up is coming along very nicely indeed. Straight after the race, the 31-year-old Kazakh spoke to t-mobile-team.com. Alexander, congragulations on your stage win! Winning a stage on top of the legendary Mont Ventoux must certainly mean a lot to you... Alexander Vinokourov: I am of course thrilled by how it went for me today. It was a really good test for the Tour de France, especially as so many of the world's best riders are in action in this race, making it a great measuring stick of my progress. Regarding the Tour, I feel that I am right on track. Winning on Mont Ventoux is definitely something special: it doesn't happen everyday! How did you rate Lance Armstrong's fourth place today? Vinokourov: Lance was very prominent at the front today, although he didn't counter my attack. He will be in top form at the Tour de France for sure. The T-Mobile Team has a few aces to play at the Tour. What are your ambitions? Vinokourov: I am in good shape, Jan is in good shape and Andreas will rise to the Tour. Togheter with the other six T-Mobile riders, we will be pulling out all the stops to win it outright. Have you any other race on your schedule before the Tour? Vinokourov: Right now, my plan is to spend a few days training in the mountains. Maybe I will also ride the National Championships in Kazakhstan. Alexander, thanks for the chat Alex and good luck for the rest of the race! Source: www.t-mobile-team.com |
