Tea has been a very popular drink in China, India and Japan for nearly two thousand years. Almost 400 years afo, traders brought the firs tea to England. It was very expensive and most people believed that i was more a medicine than a drink. It was also healthy because they had to boil the water before making the tea. It didn't take long though for the English to decide that tea was a wonderful thing to drink and enjoy. Tea soon became more popular, but was still quite expensive. The rish were the only people who could afford tea. Sometimes their servants woudl take the used tea and dry it out and use it agian themselves, or sell it to other poor people.

Tea Time

Tea soon became very popular in England and it was a great way to entertain friends or take a meal while waiting for dinner. Often you could find the children taking tea as well, and they were often found in their Nursery's taking an early meal before dinner. Children would take just as adults would with meat pies and scones. Americans have been slow to the taking of tea since Dec. 16, 1775- The Boston Tea Party. Since Americans have been more coffee lovers but have slowly been finding that Tea can be a pleasurable thing and it is growing into a popular tradition here as well in the US.
