Booked is the first in a series of elitist collections featuring musicians who first made their mark with live gigs, club performances, and constant touring. There are no bedroom wannabes and studio cats here. Danny the Wildchild was doing his turntable thing for crowds in his elementary school days, hence the “Wildchild” name. Book 001 is drum and bass: that misunderstood form of electronica where the music takes on its name literally yet the desired effect is the tribal escape of trance. While trance is new age 90s on exstacy, D&B is R2D2 spazzing out on Devo. ed 001 is the more housey D&B. Less technical, Danny’s song selection has a bit more hip hop groove and a touch of latin attitude while he holds the reigns on typical D&B, alien synth farts. Danny’s strength is his vinyl scratches on Booked 001’s birth and decline. His mixes are not. He sacrifices the smooth transition in favor abrupt mood changes that clubbers seem to favor. After all, this is more of a party album than a trip-out album. After birth, the album dies off in mundane beats of minimal flavor. But then who cares if you have the Porno track! Until then it was only foreplay. Right in the middle Score 2.0/5 /author/ Alzn |
